Could the term “fire sale” really happen in America?

I was watching the latest movie, 2007’s “Live free or Die Hard,” when I heard this term. It refers to the ability of a terrorist to force an attack upon the government of a country, in this case the United States, and disable it completely from computerized equipment.

Is this something that could really happen in America? I mean, think about it… Our government isn’t exactly straight-faced when it comes to our safety, i.e. their small minded opinions of sending our troops overseas and their disagreement with health care benefits for the citizens – and non-citizens – of America. Who’s to say that something like this would make them anywhere nearer to keeping us safe if something such as a “fire sale” really DID take place?

And besides that, how would we keep OURSELVES safe? I realize that you do not need computerized equipment to survive however people have relied mostly on up-to-date technology. Can we – YOU – survive if something like this were to happen tomorrow?

possibly yes in theory,but there are far to many closed loop systems now in place.not impossible,but i really doubt it on that scale.
