Whats the difference between Macromedia Flash Player9 and macromedia flash 8?

Me and my cousin are looking for something to create our own flash videos,we went over tutorials a100 times,so is flash player just something you use to watch flashes or create flashes.We wanna create flashes!Like the stickmen on Newgrounds,Please help,we dont want the wrong one.

Flash Player: is a virtual machine that runs or execute flash applications ( commonly known as swf files) created on Flash , Flex , OpenLaszlo etc… Flash on the other hand is an authoring tool used to develop Flash Applications that runs on top of flash player.

Now if you want to create flash application, basically you need to download an education version of Flash Authoring Environment at adobe website ( Adobe since Macromedia merge with Adobe ) or you can try other options. You can use Flex Builder( another product of adobe ) it can also create swf file plus the added Flex Framework for a robust application.
You can also get OpenLaszlo, but instead of ActionScript you’ll be using Javascript. Or you can try other IDE.

Well if I were you, I’ll use Flash or Flex rather than anything else since both of them were entirely dedicated on developing Flash Applications.
